Teaching Activities

St Louis University (Southwest IL) Family Medicine Residency -- 2018 - Present

  • Provide full-scope FM instruction and supervision across inpatient, obstetrics, outpatient, and sideline settings for 14/14/14 Family Medicine Residency.
  • Course Director: PGY-1 Sports Medicine, PGY-2 Orthopedics, and PGY-3 Sports Medicine/Pain Management. Created a longitudinal musculoskeletal medicine curriculum that emphasized 1:1 instruction on musculoskeletal (MSK) exams, progressing to an orthopedic surgical experience with strong radiology component, and culminated in a return to primary MSK care with a focus on rehabilitation and pain management.
  • Course Director: longitudinal Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and Research Curricula, Jan 2021 – Present. Re-designed curriculum to increase focus on application of EBM principles in everyday practice. Doubled residency’s production of scholarly activity over preceding academic year.
  • Course Developer: Sports Medicine Interest Track. Residents participate in twice monthly ultrasound didactics and journal clubs, as well as sports sideline coverage. 100% acceptance rate to PCSM fellowship.
  • Mentor (trainee-selected) to 9 residents with 100% acceptance rate to faculty or PCSM fellowship after graduation.

455th Expeditionary Medical Group, Bagram, Afghanistan -- 2019 – 2020

  • CME Director for the largest NATO Hospital in Afghanistan. Served as Course Director for 3 longitudinal courses for 74 physicians and licensed medical providers, providing instruction in Trauma and Deployment Medicine for 36 total hours of CME credit.
  • Partnered with multidisciplinary team to deliver recurrent lecture series on Human Performance. Educated Bagram Airfield community on supplement safety and reducing the use of unsafe supplements across the base.
  • Educated more than 30 medical providers on concussion diagnosis and management following mass casualty event, facilitating effective, evidence-based treatment of nearly 100 concussed service members over the ensuing weeks. Efforts resulted in a DoD-wide re-examination of Pre-Deployment training on concussion.
  • Instructed 21 medical technicians and RNs as they gained shadow hours to apply to DNP and PA programs.

United States Department of Defense
One of the primary care sports medicine physicians for the US Naval Academy Department of Athletics in the Patriot League. Provided medical coverage for USNA Sprint Football, Women’s Lacrosse, Women’s Rugby, M/W Boxing, M/W Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball, and Track and Field. In addition to D1 athletics support, also supported Brigade-wide athletics activities and pre-participation evaluations for all incoming midshipmen. Collaborated with the US Military Academy Department of Athletics to provide pre-participation exams for all incoming athletes. Provided mass event medical coverage at for the Army Ten Miler; Marine Corps Marathon; and 2018 DoD Warrior Games, a two-week international adaptive sports competition for injured veterans.

LionCare Free Clinic, Harrisburg, PA
Lead Clinic Coordinator (2011-2012) and Volunteer (2010-2014). Managed operations for student-run, primary care and subspecialty free clinics treating the underserved in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Oversaw more than 1,400 visits during the 2011-2012 academic year. Implemented a new, iPad-based EMR in partnership with Pinnacle Health Systems to better orchestrate continuity of care for patient population. Successfully lobbied for more than $42,000 in grant money and $22,000 in fund-raising to supply our clinic and fund specialized medical needs of our patient population.

The NCC serves as the sponsoring institution for DoD-affiliated graduate medical education within the DC region, and the GME Committee provides an organized administrative system to oversee all training programs within the NCC.

    Resident member of interdisciplinary committee that oversaw transfusion practices and adverse events to improve quality and patient safety within Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. Re-designed the inpatient transfusion order set to better inform ordering physicians regarding requirements surrounding criteria for ordering blood products.

    10-member working group tasked with updating the AMSSM Position Statement for diagnosis and management of Infectious Mononucleosis in Athletes.

    AMSSM National Meeting Program Planning Committee
    Member of the overseeing committee responsible for development and execution of 2021 and 2022 AMSSM National Meetings. This committee is responsible for content selection, organization, and execution of a 6-day conference serving an international audience of more than 1,200 sports medicine physicians. I specifically developed the curriculum, organized speakers, and will moderate a main-stage session on Osteoarthritis during the 2021 National Meeting and for the Peripheral Nerve Issues in Athletes and Myofascial Pain in 2022.
